It seems its (almost) official; Amazon are creating their own Android app store. As with most news, the rumour comes from anonymous sources over at engadget who have gotten hold of the 'developers welcome pack.'
So what does this welcome pack mean? Well it confirms that Amazon are making an exclusive app store for Android and they are already accepting submissions (of promotional material.) The tools developers need to submit an actual app are not ready yet.
Amazon say they will "ensure that the apps will install properly on customers’ devices and enable the digital rights management (DRM) policies outlined in the developer agreement.”
Developer-submitted videos will be supported in the app product pages ( a feature neither the official Android Market or the iOS App Store support.)
And of course Amazon will use its discretion to decide what will be allowed and disallowed in the store. The standard bad apples like, "Porn", “offensive content” etc won’t be permitted.
So there you go. Check out the cover letter from the welcome pack below and then wait a few weeks for the official announcement.
