So Android and iPhone are dominating the hipster market, the business heads are considering dumping RIM for Window's Phone 7,the Droid Pro or maybe even one of Nokia's high-end handsets such as the N8 and the like.
So where are BlackBerry going to get their customers? The police station apparently. No, we're not talking about stolen property or high-tech burglars using GRPS to target houses. The police apparently save around £112 million (which they probably spend on speed cameras) thanks to their BlackBerry smartphones.
Rory O'Neill, Senior Director of Business Marketing at Rim EMEA told eWeek Europe that one in six police officers in the UK carried a BlackBerry, and explained how they can be used to increase productivity.
There main use is keeping officers out on the beat. Officers can access records and investigation details while out and about and they can do their paperwork and other administrative duties from out in the field instead of having to return to their desks.
A study showed how a 'BlackBerry project' with Bedfordshire police to facilitate direct mobile access to data from the police national computer had increased the efficiency of the force. Four out of five officers involved indicated the smartphone helped them perform their role more effectively, and the force achieved a 10% increase in the time officers spent patrolling on the beat.
"We have tens of thousands of devices being used by police officers around the UK and every device delivers efficiency benefits to the officer that uses it through a host of applications that have been specifically designed for those in the police sector." Say RIM
So well done BlackBerry, for keeping our streets safe.
