Apple lose £600 million in court.

Apple really must learn that there's no point making money if you have to spend it all in court. A recent legal mishap could cost them a massive £600 million in damages but in a last ditch attempt to save their pocket money Steve and Co have asked the court to 'reconsider.'

On 1 October, a US jury found in favour of Mirror Worlds in a patent dispute over technology to display documents on computer screens as used by Apple's Spotlight, Time Machine and Cover Flow.

Mirror Worlds alleged that Apple had infringed four of its patents and after weighing evidence the jury said three out of four had been infringed and thus awarded the company $208.5m damages for each one.

Apple is asking for a delay to the judge’s final decision saying there were unresolved issues with two of the three remaining patents in the case. If the court agrees damages will be reduced to $208.5m. However, if the judge decides three patents have been infringed the damages award of $625.2m will rank among the largest in US legal history.

Mirror Worlds founder David Gelertner said he was “tremendously grateful” to his lawyers after hearing the verdict, I bet he was.

With these tech companies making a depressing amount of money, two things are certain: poverty will never be history and the civil laws books are going to be practically rewritten.

  • I’m not real happy with this purchase. It has trouble awakening up from ‘sleeping’. It runs into a cycle of trying to turn on, then off–over and over once more, and you can solely get it out by holding the power key down for a instant and restarting everything. Not convenient. I’ve been on the phone with HP for the last 4 days trying to fix it–still not repaired. Additionally–the microphone is not functional, even with HP tech trying to get it turned on. The speaker systems are terrible quality, as well.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
