Microsoft have released a video which explains how to get the best out of their new Kinect hardware for the Xbox 360, which has unintentionally shown some inconveniences of having the devices in your room. The video shows that for the best results you require decent light, large space and quiet noise levels which gives the impression that if you can't get the optimum, it may negatively affect the hardware.
First of all, an untidy room can affect gameplay. Having clutter and lots of various things in view of the sensor may hinder the device's accuracy. So to avoid this Microsoft recommends that you "Clean up and move things out of the way". This is just the first inconvenience unfortunately.
Second, we have lighting. Having your room unevenly lit (such as having lamps, more than one source of light in the room or not much at all) can affect the sensors capabilities.
Third, we have sound. This one's a little self-explanatory as a busy room, or outside noises may inconvenience you for use of the microphone.
The last thing which is possibly one of the most inconvenient factors is that the Kinect developers recommend standing 6 feet away from the sensor. This almost completely ruins using the device in a bedroom or other small rooms, and is even an inconvenience in many front rooms.
Well, despite these problems, we're sure Kinect will still have a large appeal, but if you are a small bedroom gamer, you may consider thinking twice before forking out the cash on the hardware. The video can be seen here if you want more information. Leave your thoughts on the Kinect below.

Standing 6ft away might be an inconvenience, but I’d rather keep 6ft away than hit my tv. As far as lighting, noise, and clutter, it’s understandable,
This is just the tip of the iceberg, we already know it also has problems with patterned wallpaper, the colour of peoples clothes, the color of their skin, if they are standing up/sitting down, it only works with average weight/height and gets freaked out if your hairstyle changes or you put glasses on.
Seems like the game is actually trying to get the thing working. It’s got traincrash written all over it.
@Mark while you may be correct in what you say now those are just software issues that patching can fix. That is just how the software reacts to the image it sees. The fact remains that out of all the console motion technology this camera has the most resolution (even after they cut it down) and these issues may be fixed before it’s released or shortly after.
Thanks,
