And the latest breaking gadget news is… that Sony Ericsson has got something to do with Windows Phone 7.
Pocket Lint reported earlier today that Oded Ran, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 man in the UK, had confirmed that Sony Ericsson were working on a Windows Phone 7 device i.e. building a smartphone to for the OS after kissing Symbian goodbye.
Oded was quoted as saying “Sony Ericsson is working on at least one Windows Phone 7 device”, Ran is reported to have said in an interview with mymicrosoftlife.com. Which confirmed previous rumours that Sony Ericsson was to launch a Windows Phone 7 device in the near future.
But it turns out that in the Chinese whispers of tech news Oded was misunderstood as Pocket Lint updated the story and said that Micrsoft had contacted them to say that Oded was misquoted.
What he actually said was that Sony Ericsson "were a partner" not that "they were building a device.”
So Sony Ericsson is not the latest manufacturer to join the growing number of operators that are launching handsets for the new Microsoft operating system including Toshiba, Dell and Asus; although there's nothing to say that this won't change in the near future.
Meanwhile in the Windows Phone 7 camp it has been confirmed by various sources to to Pocket-lint that Windows Phone 7 will be announced on 11 October with handsets from the likes of HTC, Samsung, and LG all available by the end of the month.
With a lot of things happening in the Sony Ercisson camp at the moment don't be surprised if we see a Windows Phone 7 handset from them sometime soon.
