That photo you just scrolled past was a photo of the world's first 'bendy escalator.' Go on soak up that future. We'll be in flying cars in no time at this rate.
You’ve probably seen conveyor belts before, carrying your battered luggage around in circles at the airport. But for some peculiar reason nobody has thought to apply the same method to human transport; until now that is.
City University London professor Jack Levy has invented the eponymous Levytator: an escalator that follows freeform curves.
Patented in Europe, the USA, and even China, all the levyvator needs is the gentle push of an investor and we'll be getting around shopping malls in circles quicker than we can say 'goodbye plain old escalator.'
What's also great (as well as circular motion) is that the device offers a better “cost per usable step” than your typical moving stairs. Is this all too good to be true? No don't be so pessimistic. Check out the video here to see the working prototype in action.
