Well if ever there's a good reason to buy Norton it's that you've got a nuclear reactor. But apparntly Iran didn't renew the subscription because a virus was apparently targeted its nuclear installations as well as the personal computers belonging to top officials in the country’s atomic program.
Mahmoud Jafari, the director of Iran’s Bushehr reactor, was among those affected by the malware. He said that a team of experts had been appointed to rid the computers of the hostile software and reasured the that the virus had “caused no serious damage to major systems.”
The virus in question is said to be the destructive Stuxnet worm which is the first of its kind, specifically created to take over industrial control systems, rather than just steal or manipulate data.
The United States is concrned and is tracking the worm. The Department of Homeland Security is building specialized teams that can respond quickly to cyber emergencies at industrial facilities across the country.
Paradoxicaly some 'experts' believe the worm is so sophisticated that it has likely been developed with backing from a Western government.
Media sources from within Iran suggest that the worm has spread throughout the country, however, specific sites affected weren't named.
