It seems T-mobile are on the verge of preinstalling a “Wi-Fi Calling” app on a range of latest Android smartphones. The prelimanary rumours were that the LG Optimus One was set to ship with wi-fi calling capabilty but now it seems however, that the Optimus is simply the mere tip of the iceburg and a whole host of handsets including the new T-Mobile G2 will be rolled out with the app.
The fuss stems from (as usual) a leaked picture which you can check out below. The image obtained by TmoNews, which is allegedly from a series of leaked 'training slides.'
So does this mean free calls for T-mobile customers? Well if you're at home or in a Wi-Fi hotspot you might save a bit of money but of course if you move outside of the Wi-Fi radius the call will be dropped which sort of goes against the point of a 'mobilephone.' I guess it will be handy if you are out of credit and need to make a free call.
But there's no need for me to point out the facts and limitations of UMA calling because T-mobile have done it in their 'training slides' in which they compare the service to Skype.
