PSP Phone: Sony looking for Android Engineers

The much-muted Sony PSP phone has made an appearance in the tech radar again, after a rather intriguing job ad has surfaced looking for Android engineers.

This has sent the rumour mill into overdrive with many now predicting the new PSP phone will now run on Android for it's phone functions as well as being a fully functioning PSP with online gaming.

The Sony job posting is looking for a senior server engineer to join its Online Technology Group nestled in London's Soho.

As well as looking for experience with Android apps, the ad is after someone with experience of handling cloud services and developing software-as-a-service.

This would suggest that the new phone would be hybrid of Android Phone and the PSP Go, which dropped physical media for online only downloads, but has yet to really take-off.  – let just hope these rumours become true.

Other juicy bits of info come in the form of "knowledge/experience of online gaming" which would point to Sony's desire to see some form of PlayStation Network on the device. This would be vital in competing with Apple's new Game Centre and Microsoft Xbox Live service for the new Windows Mobile 7 which should be out by the end of October.

Previous chatter about the PSP Phone suggested it will arrive along with a new games area on the Android Market but we would predict that Sony would like to have its own storefront. We're hoping this job ad points to PSP phone plans stepping up a gear and hopefully we might see something more concrete soon.
