It's here in the UK at last. No I’m not talking about the Pope. Facebook places. The feature is available
from today via the Facebook iPhone application and on touch.facebook.com.
I'm sure you know what the feature does, but if you don't: basically, you're phone tells Facebook where you're hanging out and then you're friends can see where you are at all times.
If you're friends have disappeared and aren't answering their phones. Check their location, oh they're at the cinema, now you've got the information to crash their date. You're in a cafe on a lunch break, you've finished your book and you’re bored. Tell the world where you are and someone might pop and say hello. You get the point. It's also a good way to show off. If you're on holiday or at a gig or that hot girl/guys house. Have I sold it to you yet? Maybe I'll get a job from Facebook for this.
So, according to Facebook, users can report any 'place' on the web or through the iPhone application and users have full privacy control and can customise these settings as well as amend them from a mobile device.
If you enjoy being stalked, all you have to do is go on your iPhone, tap the “Check In” button and then you’ll see a list of places near you. Choose the place that matches where you are. If it’s not on the list, search for it or add it. After checking in, your check-in will create a story in your friends’ News Feeds and show up in the Recent Activity section. You can even tag your friends if they're walking along with you.
Using the “People Here Now” section, you can see others who are checked in with you at that place. This is a useful aspect of the feature, giving you the ability to see if you friends are in the same area as you so you can meet up with them. The example Facebook uses is 'You're at a concert and afterwards you realise your friends were there to.' Well if they really were you friends they'd be with you at the concert surely? Well anyway. It's got potential.
So get involved in the latest social revolution now.
