A live streaming service is being tested by YouTube today, with a trial spanning over two days with four of their media partners; Young Hollywood, Next new Networks, how-to guide Howcast and Rocketboom.
YouTube product manager Josh Siegal has said that "This is just an initial trial, a first step" and "We're going to look at a whole bunch of data about the performance of our new platform and then, based on that, make decisions about how we'll open it up, with the goal of opening it up to all of our partners over time."
YouTube are going to be monitoring the live streaming trial, so they can see how their servers can handle the trial, and are also looking to see if the videos themselves look good. If the trial goes well, we may well be seeing a live streaming service coming to YouTube in the future. Do you see any potential in the possibility of live streaming on YouTube? Leave your thoughts below.
