Another sloppy Apple screw up to talk about constantly for the next few months. I wonder how long it will be before rival companies incorporate this latest gaff into their latest advertising campaign.
Despite earlier references on the Apple website to a “vibrating alert” for the fourth-generation iPod touch, the new device lacks a vibration motor. Apple originally promoted the feature on the accessibility page for the iPod touch and has since removed the reference.
According to Apple “If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you’ll receive an invitation — along with a vibrating alert — on your iPod touch asking you to join.”
But when ‘iFixit’ stripped down the iPod touch they confirmed that the iPod lacks a vibration motor which would be pretty essential in creating a 'vibrating alert.' A part of the iPod originally believed to be a vibration motor was discovered by iFixit to be a microphone.
This is an embarrassing incident for Apple who has a history of incorrect advertisement. Several early screenshots of the new iPod touch on the Apple website depicted the 'Phone and Message applications', which are only available on the iPhone. The photos were obviously, quickly taken down.
How long can Apple go on making silly mistakes and quickly bringing them down without saying a word? We're starting to see great new products overshadowed by the screw ups that come with them. Now it's not the end of the world, it's technically not a problem with the iPod, just a 'typo' by a misinformed Apple worker, but a multi-million pound company should at least be able to afford staff that actually know the insides of their new products.
