With the Playstation Move coming out next week, it's no surprise Sony will want their newest gizmo for the PS3 to make an impact. If you want to make an impact you need something big and it seems that something is in the form of a 40ft truck being driven around the country. The truck's purpose is to go around to various head offices and major shopping centre's to train retailers so they know how to use (and presumably explain) the Playstation Move to buyers.
The gaming giants are also spending £750,000 on advertising and various other methods of getting the device known out there, with spending that is expected to exceed £2-million by Christmas.
Sony's UK marketing manager Adam Boita has given reason to this huge spend, saying, "It is about creating that massive event spike during launch week, pushing it out to new audiences and continuing on last year's campaign."
However, Boita has said the Playstation Move was not a "pre-order product", suggesting that Sony is not expecting a huge turnout in that department, instead it is expected to be an 'evergreen seller'. Boita has also said that, "whereas pre-orders are very important, it is not a key focus."
It's a bit unusual that Sony would think that their product won't get a large pre-order, when it has been receiving decent reception. However, they still seem pretty confident that the Move will be constantly doing well, as opposed to one big hype which then just dies. Have you pre-ordered a Playstation Move or are you patiently waiting for a different time?
