Apple's September 1 extravaganza saw a slew of updated product launches. It also meant that it's going to be a busy time at iFixitheadquarters, where they will be tearing down all these products to their bare bones. So this time over, the first casualty is iPod Shuffle and here are the results. Due to the absence of a large screen, this little guy is tougher than most of its counterpart. A screen is generally one of the most fragile components and is liable to discernible damage, should you bang or drop your gadget. Shuffle uses a small 3.7V lithium-ion battery but still is capable of -churning out 15 hours of audio. This is again a positive by-product of lack of screen, since there is no need to use the battery to power a backlight.

The units were apparently manufactured in late June and early August of this year, as is apparent from the date codes inscribed on the interiors of Shuffle. iFixit has given it a score of 2 on the scale of ease to repair, 10 being the easiest to repair. Therefore, just control that latent technician inside you and don't crack your gadget open. The battery of Shuffle is soldered to the logic board which makes it much more difficult to replace the battery. Apple is also seems to be doing its best to miniaturize the interiors of its gadgets. Shuffle now features ultra-small cable connectors, which means it is now more difficult to open the music player. So, how do you like the gutted pictures of iPod Shuffle? Are you tempted to pry your Shuffle open once you get to lay your hands on it?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
