Samsung Announces the Orion: Could the Powerful Hummingbird Already be Obsolete?

Samsung has revealed a new dual-core processor for its mobile devices; Orion. Samsung already have one of the best processors out there, the Hummingbird which they seem to have outdone.

The newly-announced processor boasts "5 times the 3D graphics performance over the previous processor" which is alone pretty impressive, but Samsung has also said the processor can also handle 1080p video encoding and decoding at 30fps and has an embedded GPS. There is also a native triple display controller and an on-chip HDMI 1.3a interface which means that your device can drive two displays on your mobile device using this processor while feeding a third, such as an HDTV or monitor.  A powerful chip indeed.

The chip will be available for "select customers" later this year, with mass production of devices with the chip being likely in the first half of 2011. Are these specs looking exciting to you? Leave your thoughts below.
