Android is gaining traction in smartphone and tablet segment, but it is fast getting adapted by Netbook or smartbook segment too.Toshiba has announced the launch of its Android 2.1-powered, 10.1 inch smartbook AC100 in UK. The smartbook employs Toshiba's custom user interface and sports 1 GHz Tegra 250 SoC with 512 MB of DDR2 memory. Apart from this, the machine has 32 GB SSD and 802.11n WiFi. AC100 also boasts of optional 3G, but the feature is conspicuous by its absence in the machines up for sale in the United Kingdom. However, it still has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, an HDMI port and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.
Toshiba smartbook's 3G enabled version, AC100-10U, is likely to have 2100MHz UMTS/HSPA modem in Europe. It is also expected to have quadband GSM/EDGE connectivity. Currently, Amazon has the smartbook listed on its website but the product has been labeled as delayed for shipment by 1-2 months and thus is not up for grabs. However, in the UK, you can get non-3G version with a price tag of £292.52, which only slightly lower than £329 price tag likely to be sported by the company's tablet Folio 100. Folio 100 is expected to hit the markets in a next couple of months.
