Samsung Galaxy Tab to be Priced Between $200 to $300 in the US

While rumors have pegged Samsung Galaxy Tab's price in Europe in the vicinity of £600 to £800. It seems like that neighborsacross the pond are on the luckier side. Samsung's product executive Hankil Yoon has indicated that the tab will be retailed between $200 and $300 in the U.S.A. He has also said that the company will not sell the tab directly to consumers. Android-powered 7-inch tab will initiate its journey in Italy. While most of the European markets will be covered by the month of October, US is likely to have to wait for a couple of more months as the company is still in the discussion mode with various carriers.

Samsung has ambitious plans for the tab and is expecting to ship 10 million Galaxy Tabs. The company is also looking to capture a third of the global tablet market by next year. Mr. Yoon has also said that, like Galaxy Phone family, the company is planning to develop a family of Galaxy Tab devices. Apparently, Company is looking to expand the range by introducing six-inches or 10-inches tablet. So let's keep our fingers crossed and see what kind of competition this much-fabled Tab gives to the iPad. With a more petite frame and Flash capability, the tab certainly looks good on paper.

I suspect you are confusing carrier subsidised and retail prices! With a $40+ a month contract perhaps AT&T will be able to offer at $299 but this is likely to be simialr to the UK price (ex VAT) with a similar contract from Vodafone.

  • Yes, You are right. It is a carrier subsidised price, however, since Samsung is selling the tablet via carriers only, I chose the more compact word “retail price”, as in the case of this tablet retail price and subsidised price is one and the same amount.
