Toshiba T Series Burn Hazard: Voluntary Recall and BIOS Update in Effect

Toshiba has issued a voluntary recall in conjunction with the U.S. consumer Product Safety Commission and Health for the T series line of notebooks (the notebooks in question being the Satellite T135, T135D and the Satellite Pro T130) after it was revealed that the notebooks can overheat at the AC adapter connection, causing potential burn and fire risks to it's users.

The T series has sold around 41,000 notebooks between August 2009 and August 2010 at around $600-$800 and in that time there have been 129 reports of the overheating Notebooks deforming the plastic around the AC adapter, 2 reports of minor burn injuries (no medical attention was required for either) and 2 cases of minor property damage.

In an attempt to fix the issue, Toshiba have released BIOS update that can be downloaded that will detect an overheating machine and will disable the external power while displaying a message to the user. If users receive the message, Toshiba has said that the Notebook will be repaired for free.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
