Facebook to add ‘friend subscription’ feature

Facebook seems to be encouraging stalking with its latest feature. It is said to be testing out a new subscription feature that allows users to receive alerts any time a specific 'friend' 'takes certain actions' on the social network.

Therefore with this new addition to Facebook along with your updates, you'll get your friends updates. I.e. 'John Smith has posted on Joe Blogs Wall' etc it doesn't really make a difference as you can access all this information via the news feeds anyway. It just means you find out instantly rather than the next time you're waiting for the kettle to boil and have a scan through Facebook.

AllFacebook reports that it has noticed the new feature popping up on friends' profiles and Facebook told the blog, "This feature is being tested with a small percent of users. It lets people subscribe to friends and pages to receive notifications whenever the person they've subscribed to updates their status or posts new content, photos, videos, links or notes."

We don't know yet whether you'll be able to add people who aren't your friends which will be one hundred percent creepy, that's if Facebook even decide to use
the feature as at the moment it is simply being tested out

Plus, Since essentially the social networking site is enabling people to 'follow' each other, as well as catering for stalkers it seems they're frightened of being swallowed up by they're rivals Twitter. With additions such as Facebook places (which is also a little threating to individual privacy) it seems Facebook will do anything to stay on top of their game.

They also seem determined to know absolutely everything about us and tell anyone who wants to know.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
