iPod Touch 4G Official Release Date in 1 Week: Are You Tempted to Buy One?

As you will all probably know, Apple held an event yesterday which went into detail about the new iPod, iOS and Apple TVs.  However, one thing which has been in the limelight and fair amount of speculation and rumours for months now is specs and release dates of the the new iPod Touch 4G.

Well, after months of agonising waiting it was confirmed yesterday that pre-ordering has already started on the new iPod Touch and we can expect a release date on the 10th of September 2010.

So what can we expect from the iPod Touch 4G?  It has been announced that the new iPod Touch will be a lot thinner and will tout a dual camera and killer retina display.

It also has Face Time for your chatting pleasure along with faster A4 chip and the gyroscope. Pricing for the 32GB and 64GB models has been retained at $299 and $399 level respectively, however, 8GB model has got little price bump to $229.

However, the question is whether you would be tempted to fork out for a new iPod Touch when the iPhone 4 can do everything the iPod Touch can and more. What do you think? Leave us you thoughts below…

  • why is it that just about every column and blog talks about how the iphone can do everything and more, so why get the itouch…. Jobs said it himself, iphone minus the phone with no contrat

  • yes im very temtped and will no doubt get one. but ill probs get it online free. i cannot wait. its about time a camera was put on it too

  • Thanks for the info, I’ve been waiting for an announcement of when the iTouch 4G will come out.

And for you question, well I don’t have an iPhone and all I’m looking for is something to play music and maybe some games. In addition I don’t think the iPhone has 64GB of memory, not that I will use it all :), but I’m just saying.

    Thanks Again

The iPod touch 4G will be released on September 10th, which is one week from tomorrow.

i can totally agree with you i have the i phone 3gs and im wanting the new ipod touch so i dont have to pay all the money for the new iphone 4. thanks apple lol

Notice that they haven’t mentioned the camera resolution yet, makes me wonder if they are gonna be using the 3.2MP 3GS camera. I would have thought they would have talked a lot about a 5MP camera.

If it is a 5MP then count me in.

  • i think that the ipod touch 4g will have the old ipod nano camera and not take pics and just video otherwise they would of told us.

  • The new camera is a 0.7MP back camera. It takes 960×720 pictures and 720p HD video. I have the iPhone 4 but no one else does so I can’t FaceTime anyone. Hopefully this will open up the userbase and get the ball rolling.

  • I am trying to decide if an iphone is really worth the money considering all the issues regarding making calls. I mainly want the iphone for the apps store and media but have come to the conclusion that keeping my samsung monte for calling and any on the move web stuff alongside a ipod touch will give me best of both worlds and I will KNOW I can make a call without some design flaw messing up or the battery failing due to overplaying my music. just saved myself £300 too!

Well i beleive that you CAN take pictures with this as well, look at some of apples photos of this ipod and you will notice the camera icon as one of the options!

Right, no way I’m getting one of these.
0.7MP camera is hardly “the iPhone without the phone or contract”.

I had a phone with a camera this bad in the last century.

I have an iphone 4. i don’t need one of these because it does exactly what the iphone does but cant call out. when will all ipods be gone. the iphone is an ipod but much more. whats the point in making as many different ipods? Iphone is everything. Its the same story with the ipad. Its a big ipod touch with some inspiration from the Mac. If i did t have a mac i would have got an ipad. If i did t have an iphone i would have got an ipod touch.

well, the way i see is that it ipod is much better than an iphone.why im tellin this is that you can kill 2 birds easily by getting one itouch cuz it really does everything iphone does .so,pay 299$ and put the rest of ur money in ur piggy bank ;) good idea huh

I have seen sme pictures made on the ipod touch and they don’t look bad at all for a 0.7 MP camera. Does anyone have real experience with the camera of the ipod touch? Is it any good? Here in Holland (europe) this ipod touch is not released yet. Does anyone know when it is going to be released in Holland?

  • Id much rather have an ipod touch 4g than an iphone 4.. because with iphone 4 you have to have a contract or top up. Even to surf the internet.. With ipod touch you get free internet as long as your connected to wi-fi. & with FaceTime (a new feature on ipod touch) you get to talk to people too.. almost like phoning. So i can’t wait to get it ;DD x

  • The fact that I know that Apple will inevitably bring out a iPhone 5 really makes me apprehensive, knowing that the iPhone 4 that I buy would go out of date so quickly!
