Those of you in the UK, USA, Mexico, Japan and (English speaking) Canada, can be considering yourselves lucky if you were intending to get the Kinect on it's release, as it has been confirmed that these are the only countries which will initially support the motion-sensor's "if you see it, just say it" voice control.
In an interview with Eurogamer Spain, Microsoft PR manager Lidia Pitzalis mentioned that countries such as Germany, Italy, France and Spain will all have to wait until Spring 2011 for their languages voice support. This is apparently due to accents throwing off voice recognition, apparently requiring separate software versions for the English speaking USA and UK.
Don't expect to be able to use the software in the left-out countries even if you can speak English either, as Microsoft is reportedly disabling voice altogether in those regions.
Have Microsoft just been rushing the release of this product so much they didn't consider that they might have needed to sort this out pre-release? Also, will accents be such a huge problem for the Kinect, considering how different accents in every corner of the UK can be? Leave your thoughts below.
