It seems PS3 users have been Strung along by Howard Stringer (ba-dum-tish.) The Sony CEO has said that PS3 will be getting the ability to play 3D Blu-ray disks by the end of October at its keynote speech at IFA in Berlin, Germany.
This follows claims that it would be done in summer, then September.
Getting all excited about 3D Blu-ray, Sony talked about nothing else for the majority of the company’s press conference.
The massive projection at the back of the stage was shown in 3D – the company dazzled journalists with examples of golf and football and music in 3D, as it makes 3D the focus of its efforts over the coming year.
Stringer wouldn’t give a specific date for the final release, probably because it's going to change again. But if you’ve got a 3D-Ready TV you’ll be able to enjoy movies like Avatar, and other Sony titles in time for Christmas.
It wasn’t all about 3D. Sony also confirmed the launch of a Google TV powered device before the end of the year in the US.
Blu-Ray has helped the PS3 establish itself as the leading console and the addition of 3D is going to make it even stronger in the run up to Christmas. With the prices of a 3D Blu-ray player being so high, why wouldn't you treat yourself to a free games console?
