The Samsung Galaxy S, though one of the best smartphones on the market, like everything else has its teething problems. You may have heard about an issue with the handsets USB.
The problem appears to be a bug that makes the handset crash when files with 16 character extensions are used. The smartphone itself doesn’t have the problem supporting the large file names however when it is connected to a computer via USB auto reset is triggered and the users data is wiped.
Right now those who have a 'faulty' Galaxy S have the choice of either not connecting the device to a computer until a permanent fix is found, or deleting any files that have 16 character extensions.
A Samsung spokesperson said “The issue will be remedied immediately when the file is removed” and confirmed that Samsung is working to provide a software upgrade that should be available before the end of August.
The Samsung Galaxy S is also currently struck with a GPS bug that is causing problems. An update for this bug is expected to be released in September.
Perhaps Samsung will roll both fixes into one update. After splashing advertisements around town which mock the iPhone 4 reception issues, they'll want to sort out a problem as significant as auto-resets wiping out data as soon as possible.

Why in the world would you have files with 16 character extensions? What kind of files are you using? dumbfile.batexetxtdoctarzip?
