Viewsonic revealed yesterday that they plan ot launch two new tablets, bearing the resurrected Viewpad brand name, at next week's IFA in Berlin. As with many other tablets that are popping up daily - it looks to be a capable tablet, and comes it two different sizes a 7-inch and 10-inch model. The 10-inch version will come with a unique feature of dual booting.
This means you'll be able to run the tablet in Android mode as well as Windows mode, for those of you who want the best of both worlds. The tablet itself looks like Samsung Galaxy, which is no bad thing.
Specs wise little is known about the device but the usual suspects are here with A-GPS, a Micro SD Card slot and USB connections.
It is likely feature a 1GHz processor, 512MB ram and a choice of either 16GB or 32GB hard drives - which is more than enough for all your media needs.
It seems likely that it will run Android 3.0, which would require a minimum spec of 1GHz, 512Mb ram and a resolution of 1280×760. If it is true about the 10″ pad running Windows 7 then it could feature an impressive 1GB of RAM, which is the minimum required to run the operating system.
Dual Booting looks like the buzz-word of the day with all these new Tablets, and allows users to choose which operating system they want to use when the fire up the device, making a interesting proposition especially if you have loads of Window applications that you can't live without.
For PC users looking for a tablet that can provide a familiar word processing experience as well as the other home comforts of Windows, running Windows 7 is an attractive feature. Other possible benefits could include a greater variety of games, with services such as Steam, which could be used to download and install games in the absence of a CD drive.
We will try and get some time with the ViewPad at the IFA and will give you the lowdown.
What do you think of the dual booting functionality ? Let us know below.
