A new free app has appeared for the iPhone, which will supposedly "track the UK's happiness across space and time". The Mappiness app - developed by researchers at the London School of Economics - is intended to aid research into how people's surroundings, such as pollution, noise levels, weather and location (such as urban or rural) can affect our mood.
The app asks the user at random once a day to say how they are feeling which will be sent along with their location to LSE researchers anonymously which updates happiness levels on their website; mappiness.org.uk. Users are also given an analysis of their moods.
Lead Researcher at the LSE, George MacKerron has said that, “By tracking across space as well as time, and by making novel use of a technology that millions of people already carry with them, we hope to find better answers to questions about the impacts of natural beauty, environmental problems – maybe even aspects of climate – on individual and national wellbeing.”
An interesting study to be sure, and an interesting way of going about it, but will iPhone users get it? Leave your comments below.
