Testing for the iOS 4.1: Products include the iPad 2 and iTV?

It has been reported that Apple is testing the newest version of their operating system, iOS 4.1 on a number of their products including; the iPad, the unannounced iPod Touch 4 and an unknown product (speculated to be the iTV)

This information has been found on the latest beta version of iOS 4.1, which has indicated that it is being tested on these devices in their "Configuration Descriptors" section (the list is shown below).

The first device code shown at the top of the first column on the list is referred to as 'iPod 4.1', which indicates it is the first iteration of the 4th generation iPod Touch. The top of the second column has the device name 'iProd 2.1', which is believed to be the second generation iPad, as the first iPad was given the name iProd 1.1. The third and final column shows an 'unknownHardware' which has been speculated to be the iTV.

It is expected iOS 4.1 will be released next month, during the next big Apple event.

  • Surely Apple can’t call their product iTV? That’s so confusing – especially when talking about anything regarding television – ITV or iTV? surely the television channel will have more clout behind their branding than Apple will. Apple will have to succumb to changing their device’s name. I still think the name ‘iTelevision’ would be a cool name for the product and distinctly different from ITV’s brand.

Please Mr Jobs, you cannot take over the world with your small ‘i’. Use your common sense and be original and don’t try and re-use other people’s branding.

  • If Apple announces the existence of the Ipad2, it Will be marked as THE worst marketing trick ever done by Apple.

  • @ Peter LOL, the worse marketing trick ever by Apple is creating a dud product called the “iPhone 4 with death-grip” haha. They’re still flogging them, so I presume that they have now resolved the death-grip issue. But I agree iPad2 does sound a bit poo.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
