Sony Facing Hacking troubles With A New USB Modchip for PS3

A new USB modchip which allows Playstation 3 users to transfer their games onto nearby storage has emerged today. The modchip can transfer games onto nearby storage (including the consoles internal hard drive and external hard drives), allowing the playing of games without their discs.

This could be a dream for many Sony lovers but a huge problem for Sony itself. The device has the obvious illegal use of piracy, but the more innocent among us may be glad to simply have the device for back-up uses (but who am I kidding?). There is a video showing the device working properly, but it's best not to take this as decisive evidence yet, and you should wait around for more information on the device before considering forking out your cash.

So what do you think about this device? Of course, piracy is not encouraged but do you think such a device should be allowed to exist and would you get one if it works?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
