As Sony desperately tries to rake in as much money as it can from the dying breaths of the PSP, with mad ten game-giveaways and iPhone bashing adverts, the new PSP is preparing to be unleashed and show us what Sony are capable of.
And According to sources, 'The PSP-3000' as it will be called, will feature touch sensitive controls.
Eurogamer.net is claiming three separate development sources who have seen and used the new PSP say that console is controlled “by a touch-sensitive area behind the screen.”
According to the site, “Sony is showcasing the unfinished handheld to publishers at the moment using several first-party games and has already settled on its business model for the device, which was not shown to the public at gamescom this week.”
Despite this though, word is the portable console will not be released until the end 2011 or even later.
Sony told Eurogamer it “does not comment on rumour and speculation”
It seems like no big surprise as everything today seems to be touch. Let's hope it also retains its solid physical buttons like the classic analogue sticks.
If Sony are waiting until 2011 they're going to be releasing the device into a fierce market. Depending on how late into next year, The 3Ds should be out by then. Plus the Android and iPhone markets will be even bigger and stronger, all the tablets will be out, like the iPad mini for example, which seems well suited to games, and who knows what else may emerge. Good luck PSP.
