The word on the rumour mill is that Apple are set to be working on the release of an iPad mini
The seven-inch version of the iPad has been reported in a Chinese newspaper which had correctly predicted the specifications of the 'original' iPad months before anyone else. The rumours stem from the news that Taiwanese companies have won several contracts to make components smaller than those used on the current 9.7-inch iPads.
Chimei Innolux will apparently supply seven-inch LCD screens, which use the same IPS (in-plane switching) technology found in the full size iPad and touchscreen technology for the screens is set to come from Cando Corporation.
The new version is predicted to be 200g lighter than the standard iPad and set to share similar success seen in the iPod nano. Sources say that Apple intend to launch the smaller iPad this December in time for the Christmas.
It will be interesting to see how much the device will be sold for and I wonder if Apple will make any changes to the ipad when it shirnks, after consumers and bloggers alike have called for many features on the such as USB and flash.
If the device is out in time, will it be on your Christmas list?
