UK Kindle Store Allows Budding Writers to Self Publish

All the old fashioned music fans with their piles of LPs and CDs were sure that MP3s/downloading were going to destroy the music industry. But it seems that things are doing fine in the musical world. Of course there are some terrible songs floating around in the charts and there's probably some great bands struggling to be heard: but that's just the way it goes.

The same can be said for books. I like a good book myself a nice hardback looks good lying on a shelf but I can also see the appeal in E-reading. There are probably many people sat in their armchair envisaging a world where there are no physical books anymore. But let's be honest it's probably not going to happen.

In fact Kindle seems to be a great aid for readers and writers. With databases such as project Gutenberg a new generation of readers are being introduced to classic pieces of literature. Writers are making money on Electronic sales and now Amazon has made another great move for the good of fiction.

After the recent opening of the Amazon Kindle UK store, the Kindle Digital Text Platform has now also arrived in the UK.

“Publishers and authors can now take advantage of the Kindle Digital Text Platform and make their books available to the millions of customers that visit Amazon.co.uk,” said Greg Greeley, Amazon Vice President, European Retail.

"We expect to see UK with publishers and authors benefitting from greatly increased sales as a result of adding their titles to the new Kindle Store via the Kindle Digital Text Platform.”

The DTP allows users to quickly and simply upload their content to the Kindle store in the UK to sell. The books you upload are in turn, made available to Amazon Kindle users as well as those who use the Kindle reader software on Android, PC, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch devices. Publishers and authors can upload and make available their books in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. They are also able to set the digital list price for their titles on Amazon.co.uk in pound sterling.

Great news for budding authors like myself. Maybe we'll see the latest best seller spring up on the Amazon Kindle store.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
