ASUS has announced the price points for a bevy of tablets and e-readers planned to be rolled out later this year.
First off, the company has decided to ditch Windows Embedded Compact 7 for its 10-inch tablet, Eee Pad EP101 TC. Asus will now use Android Platform instead. The tablet was initially rumored to be priced between $399 and $499, but now CEO Jerry Shen has announced that it will be priced under $399. The tablet will sport Nvidia Tegra chips and will weigh 675 grams. Eee Pad EP101 TC will be available in March, 2011. However, the company is still using Windows Embedded Compact 7 for its yet another 10-inch tablet. This tablet, likely to be available from January next year, will be priced in the vicinity of $499.
Asus has priced its Eee Tablet at $300. The so-called tablet was earlier expected to be priced at $599. The tablet is more of an e-reader than a tablet and features a grayscale display. Eee Tablet was expected to run Android but now it will come equipped with Linux OS. Asus is targeting school students with this tablet as it is capable of taking notes with the help of a stylus. And finally, there is EP121, Asus's 12-inch tablet running Windows 7. This baby is priced at $1,000 and uses Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Asus has said that this tablet can easily be converted in to a laptop by using its dock stations. Seems like, Tablet segment is going to get all heated up a la mobile market.
