For all you die-hard Vodafone pay-as-you-go fans out there waiting for the iPhone 4 to accept you, wait no longer as Vodafone has announced it will now be answering your calls.
The devices, which will be locked to Vodafone, will be sold at £480 for the 16GB model and £570 for the 32GB one. However, this is only a saving of just £19-29 if you get a SIM-free model directly from Apple.
Although this saving sounds very minor, Vodafone is hoping to convince users to switch quickly, as buying the iPhone 4 by November 2010 on this PAYG device will land you with 12 months of free data. This gives users 250MB a month of 3G data and 1GB a month of Wi-Fi from BT Openzone. Vodafone's PAYG rates are 20p per minute for calls and 10p texts (although presumably you can still use their freedom packs).
Mark Bond, consumer director at Vodafone UK stated that, "Customers asked us to make the iPhone 4 available on pay as you go, offering them a variety of ways to pay for their mobile internet access”
He has also said, "We'll bring in additional options later in the year which will allow even greater flexibility." No word as of yet what these additional options shall be.
When hoping to get a new phone, always look beyond the fancy one year offer and get a good look at all your options and sit down to do the maths. You never know, buying direct from apple and using a SIM card from another network may be better value.
