Google Street View Cars Roam the UK Once More

It seems everyone's favourite voyeuristic site showing off the streets of the world, Google Street View is having their cars roam around every nook and cranny of the UK once more. The UK information Commissioner cleared the cars for use again last month, after they were previously pulled for capturing unauthorized WiFi data back in March this year.

Google admitted that its Street View Car's cameras were collecting samples of payload data from open WiFi networks accidentally, saying they never used such data in any of their products. Although, Google Street cars will not be capturing or storing any such data this time round, it is always recommended that your WiFi network should be protected if possible regardless.

The cars should already be back to taking 360 degree photos every few meters down roads all over the UK, and who knows, your previously missing street may turn up, or even you yourself may be caught by the easy-to-spot automobiles (just try not to be picking your nose while it passes).

  • This is brilliant. There has been a lot of change in street layouts and buildings that have been done up or demolished where I live. It would be good to see up to date Streetview photos. My car is outside my house at my address and it was bin day. It must have been a day off work.

I’d love to drive a Google Car around every road in my area. What a great job.

  • I am going out to Cardiff today so I might be spotted!! and the new road by where I live better be on Google Earth!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
