Vonage And Facebook Join Forces to Offer Free Calls

Vonage announced today that it has developed a new app for iPhone and Android to allow users to make free mobile calls to all their Facebook friends that have the app too.

The application is currently available for the Android and iPhone platforms, works on Wi-Fi as well as 3G/4G, and -- obviously -- requires a Facebook account. The Vonage Mobile app will automatically import and categorise your Facebook friends-list by who is available for voice calls versus text chat.

The new service is easy to use. The app works with a user existing Facebook friends, so there's no need to remember screen names or to input numbers. The application eliminates dialing - users can just click on a friend and start talking. When placing a call, the friend's profile picture and status update display on the screen.

So if you want to get really cheap, like free calls. Follow these easy steps and you'll be getting free calls in just a couple of minutes.

Download the app from the iTunes Store, Android Market. You'll need to enter your Facebook ID and password once at the beginning.

Then it will group friends who can be called for free and friends available for instant messaging on Facebook. A Vonage logo will appear next to the names of friends who have downloaded the app.

The new service continues Vonage's commitment to be the leader in low-cost communication services that connect individuals and social networks through any broadband device, worldwide.

The app can be downloaded from the Android Market in 48 countries and from the iTunes Store in 87 countries. But if you don't have an unlimited data plan you should check your data usage so you don'y get stung.

Let us know if you have tried the new app, and let us know what the quality is like.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
