Last year Android was still finding its feet and was making a sluggish entrance to the smartphone industry, which makes Google's current OS success all the more impressive.
As if from nowhere, Android has become one of the hottest topics in the gadget world. Some of the most exciting handsets this year like the Droid and the HTC desire run on Android. Plus it's sneaking its way onto these floods of tablet devices we're seeing.
2.2 Froyo has finally been released into the wild, causing much excitement, hysteria and frustration (from those who have been starved of updates by their network provider.)
And once the 2.2 buzz fades away, 3.0 is rumoured to blast into next year's scene with a January release or even a release as earlier as this December. It's fair to say if Google keep going the way they are, they'll take Android to the OS top spot in no time.
It's not all hype either, Google have just released the figures to prove its success. 200,000 Android phones are activated every single day, which means global sales have risen 886 per cent.
What do you think of these latest figures? Are they a sign that Android's set for the top or are Google just being overly smug?
