Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner has dropped a couple of clangers recently at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in DC. He was chatting about the company’s upcoming Windows Phones and he couldn’t help but take a little pop at the iPhone. Nothing unusual there right? Well when he insults his own product in order to belittle Apple, it is.
“It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I’m okay with that” he said.
It seems that Windows are confident in their upcoming phone's ability to take on the iPhone. But despite Apple's recent issues, the iPhone has proved a strong seller and has picked up positive reviews and awards. It's going to be a hard phone to beat.
But if you are a fan of Windows you'll be pleased to hear that at this very presentation, Turner (though some suggest he wasn't really supposed to) gave a basic set of time scales for the phone, (although no specific release date was specified.)
Turner said that Windows expect to release the Windows 7 phone in October across Europe and in the November in the US. Meaning the UK gets something before the US for once.
So with the prospect of a Windows 7 handset in time for Christmas, will you be tempted by the latest smartphone?
