Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo Update Expected This Week?

Android is spreading like a virus at the moment and it seems like every smartphone company in the world is shifting to 2.2 (aka Froyo.) HTC EVO 4G receives the firmware tomorrow. Unlocked Desires were updated over the weekend, Samsung are planning to upgrade their devices and now the Droid has joined the picture.

According to Verizon, Motorola's Droid handset should expect 2.2 sometime this week (probably close to the 3rd in keeping with their competitors HTC). This is great news for all the Android fans out there that have been waiting patiently for the official upgrade.

Motorola are getting hyped up about their Droid's upgrade to 2.2 claiming it will 'maximize your droid' with 'new features and tons of shortcuts.' 'It's like downloading a new phone' they say.

Those who own a Droid and are waiting for Froyo can expect such features as improved web browsing, new security features (such as remote wipe and lock), Bluetooth voice-dialling and lots of other enhancements and improvements  from improved call audio to the ability to read PDFs from Outlook 2003 and Yahoo.

If the Droid wasn't already an attractive handset, combined with 2.2, it's a tempting prospect for those who are looking for a new smartphone. There's no news on the Droid X yet though, but rumour has it Motorola have been working on it and we should expect to have an announcement in the very near future.
