Android 2.2 Froyo Hack Gets Taken Down by HTC

When a new smartphone is released into the marketplace, it is almost certain that hackers are hot on the trail to hack into the phone’s latest OS.  We have seen it with the latest iPhone 4 and various Android based smartphones, however sometimes things can backfire.

We know that HTC are expecting to release the Android 2.2 Froyo update shortly for the HTC EVO 4G, however it would appear that the hackers have got in there first.

This time they've managed to get hold of an official Froyo Sense Rom (the first of its kind.) It's been rooted and made available to download here. Avalaunchmods are the guys behind the ROM which is said to be running perfectly.

However, the hack has done enough to attract the attention of HTC, who have pulled it down and released a slightly angry note which reads: "Please be aware any update.zip floating around for EVO are not final and may cause problems. Official updates are coming OTA next week!"

With Android 2.2 being unleashed as earlier as tomorrow (August the 3rd) (with the official HTC update) it's likely that most people will wait for an official 2.2 update than to use the hack version but then again, there's always some isn't there.

Regardless of how people get hold of 2.2, it promises to be an exciting OS with many new features and vastly improved performance on offer. It's an exciting time for Android and its users, so watch this space.
