Android 2.2 Froyo Official Release Date for HTC EVO 4G Confirmed for August 3rd

If all you HTC EVO 4G owners thought that you were getting the short straw at it was announced that the HTC Desire and the Nexus One were the only smartphones to have already received or getting the Android 2.2 Froyo update, then it is time to jump with joy as it has been revealed that the HTC EVO 4G should also be getting their very own official update on August 3rd.

As well as this, a lucky few EVO 4G owners should be getting the Froyo update tomorrow as part of preliminary testing, whilst the rest of the owners should be getting the update in mid-August.

Android 2.2 Froyo update for EVO 4G phones will bring Voice Dialing over Bluetooth, ability to store apps on External Memory, and Flash 10x support with improved browser performance. Android Froyo 2.2 is suggested to be four times faster than it’s predecessor, Eclair 2.1 and also brings a large variety of features which include data tethering, and ability to turn the handset into a WiFi hotspot.

Previously there have been unofficial ports of Android 2.2 onto HTC EVO 4G, however it is great to see that it has now been made official as unofficial ports usually mean that it could compromise the phones warranty if things go wrong. Apart from the HTC Desire, other phones listed for the Android 2.2 update include the Motorola Droid, Droid X and the HTC Incredible, which are expected next week so watch this space as more updates become available.

So what do HTC EVO 4G users do when the update becomes available? Well, HTC EVO 4G users will receive a notification for download while the eager souls can easily check Settings>System Updates>HTC Software Update to get it earlier.
