Microsoft was already looking forward to a busy year with the release of the Windows Phone 7 and Xbox Kinect and now recently they've added a tablet PC onto their plate as well.
Microsoft has had a successful year financially and is in a great position to develop new hardware. The continuing success of Windows 7 OS and Microsoft Office 2010 means that Microsoft has just made a record $4.52bn profit.
The tablet which is created in partnership with Hewlett-Packard is set to be released in Autumn.
Apple has sold more than three million iPads since it went on sale in April and Microsoft has been seeking to get into the lucrative market with executive vice president Todd of HP Bradley claiming: “Slates are going to be an enormous category."
When the Microsoft tablet arrives it may have enough to pluck tablet consumers from Apple. The HP tablet computer will be able to run Flash which Apple have barred from the iPad and it is likely that their will be more iPad challenging features packed into the device once it hits the shops.
Though the ipad has done well, it was generally ridiculed in the tech world due to its lack of features like multi-tasking, USB, camera etc. HP and Microsoft have got a lot to work with and it would be foolish of them not to take note of what consumers want from a tablet PC?
So what do you want from Microsoft's latest venture?

“end of the iPad”
“iPad killer”
Why use these hackneyed phrases and embarrass yourself?
The facts are that Apple update their products yearly, by the time other companies have done a hack job trying to keep up, Apple are releasing a new version.
Apple do the hardware and the software so they make it work. If the hardware and the software are made by 2 different companies you have the standard PC problem of things that don’t work.
Instead of posting nonsense to get a reaction, why not just post “Another iPad wannabe being released, it’ll never be as popular”. That way you are right and tell everyone that you told them so.
Before anyone writes … I designed and built my website over 9 years ago and I have not touched it for 7 years. It still receives daily updates from a good selection of sources but – now that I’m 72 years old – I promise the unsuspecting world another update before I die !!
In response to the rather emotional outburst from ‘selfsilent’ above …
Many (maybe most) of us have read that it costs Apple close to $100 to bring an iPad to market; so I, for one, am waiting for market forces to settle on something closer to $100 for the likes of a DELL Streak, an ACER Stream or a Motorola DROID X.
I am completely at a loss to find any logic for choosing to launch a non-voice-communicating iPad to market – except greed.
So, I fully expect the market, in the next 3 months or so, to bombard us with a slew of DELL Streak-like devices from SonyEricsson, Samsung, Viewsonic, even Microsoft – and all equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, Google Maps and Swype to allow us to make phone calls on them, and allow us to use the Internet to our heart’s content.
Shame I bought a Samsung Netbook 6 months ago !!
If my reasoning is sound – who knows what LG and HTC might drop on us in the same time frame?
My current contract with ‘3’ Mobile/SonyEricsson runs out at the beginning of 2011 … so I can’t wait for Christmas.
