Microsoft’s bigwig Aaron Greenberg announced yesterday the pricing for their hotly-anticpated Kinect movement control would be £129.99 with Kinect Adventures, and announced that it will be bundled with a new slim Xbox for £250.
They also announced that there would be a new 4GB Arcade model, which will be released by the 20th August, and will be priced at £149.99 and will be identical to one released last week apart from the hard-drive.
The 4GB is internal flash, and the console has the snazzy matte black finish – otherwise it’s exactly the same as the “whisper quiet” Xbox 250GB, and includes built in Wi-Fi, the smaller design, and a hard drive bay.
“It will effectively replace the Arcade console,” Greenberg said. “We see it as a great value entry price point for consumers. We’re upgrading the storage to a full 4GB, which is quite a bit of storage. At £149.99 we think that’s a great price point.”
For the Kinect bundle, which will be available in time for the winter launch, you will get Kinect Adventures for free – which we think is a reasonable price, we still think it should have been £99.99.
All first party Kinect games will retail for £39.99. Kinect Adventures, however, will be a full-price retail game.
Microsoft has high hopes for the sensor. Greenberg likened Kinect’s launch to that of a new console, he said: “There will be a whole new wave of consumers looking for all new ways to experience games and entertainment. To be able to do that with the console plus the sensor and the game at that value is pretty unprecedented.”
“A lot of people have talked about this being the type of leap you would typically see when you went to a new generation,” he said.
So now we know the price point for Kinect - what do think of a £129.99 price point? Too expensive? Have you say below.
