It has been a long time since we’ve updated you on the ongoing search engine war between China and Google. Well, our update couldn’t have come at a more poignant time than this as it would appear that after months of disputing the China versus Google spat seems to be drawing to an end today.
A senior state official announced that China is ‘satisfied’ with Google’s latest round of changes. Knowing that either parties wouldn’t get their way, Google have tried to strike a balance by having its local .cn domain adhere to the censorship laws of China but also providing a link out to the uncensored Hong Kong local domain.
The .hk search will also be subject to China’s screening, however not to the extent which is currently apparent on their .cn domain. This is always a nice bit of good news when we see two sides reach an applicable decision. Case closed!
