With 'Unrevoked 3"² you can get Android 2.2 on HTC Desire now

Were you one of those children who opened their presents before Christmas? Have you got a HTC phone? Then you will love to get your hands on Android 2.2 a month before the official HTC update.

If you can't wait for the official release you can download 'Unrevoked' software from the internet and with a couple of clicks and a dodgy ROM your handset will be running the latest Google OS.

'Unrevoked3' according to the website is a “A custom recovery image allows you to perform advanced tasks on the system partition, such as flashing custom ROMs and taking a full backup of your phone."

So far the software works with the HTC handsets: Sprint HTC Evo 4G, Droid Incredible, HTC Desire, HTC Aria, Droid Eris but not on the HTC legend or Wildfire.

Of course this software would void your warranty and leave you without support if something goes wrong. But that's probably not enough to stop some people.

Although this post by TechRadar suggests Android 2.2 will start spring up officially very soon. So unless there is some big delay ”Unrevoked’ could be here too late.

  • what a shambolic piece of software. If youre a windows user be prepared for some head scratching followed by disappointment and frustration. Installing the usb driver is fairly straight forward, but thats as far as i got. HTC Desire.

  • The software works great. you just don’t know how to use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
