Gaj-it took delivery of the new slim Xbox today, which was released to crowds across the country at mid-night launches last night.

When we fired the new console up we were greeted with a whole host of things to do to get your new console update and get your old data and games from your old console to the new shiny one.

So we thought we would give you a Gaj-it Guide to the new console, which is "here for today and ready for tomorrow" according to Microsoft's newly released adverts.

If you are upgrading, which there seems to be a lot, you will need to pick up the data transfer kit, which is £14.99 and will allow you to transfer all your all data in one go.

As soon as you break the seal on the new Xbox and start unpacking it, you'll soon realise what the fuss is all about.

It is bite-the-back-of-your-hand beautiful, with touch sensitive power and open-tray buttons, replacing those old archaic pushdown buttons.

It’s not that much smaller than the old variety, but you’ll be glad to know that it is extremely quiet – which is great as the old one was a noisy old so and so.

With the console you will get a new and improved power supply, which will handle Kinect when lands this Christmas, a AV cable, which was a little disappointing as you should really get a HDMI, a new all-black wired Headset and of course the new whisper quiet console.

When you fire up the console with the data transfer cable plugged into the one of five USB's, you'll be greeted to with fun video of the whole Xbox experience and then you’ll be given an option to recover your Gamertag and transfer your data.

The process is simple and will automatically transfer you data to the new 250GB internal hard drive. Although, If your profile is saved to a memory card you'll have to put it on the hard drive as the new console has done away with the memory slots, which was a little disappointing.

Next up, you will need to go www.xbox.com/drm and transfer your licenses to the new console - this is for all full games that you might have bought on your old console. You will need to have your Windows Live ID to hand, once you have signed in with your ID it will give you a detailed breakdown of all license that are associated with your console. Then it will tell you to leave your new console on and connect it to Xbox Live. It will sign you out and once you sign in again you are all ready to go.

We think the new Xbox is a great bit of kit and it has already gone down a storm over the pond with Microsoft saying that the like for like sales compared to last year, are up by 88%, which is very impressive and with the arrival of Kinect it will be flying off the shelves for many months to come.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
