TV B Gone Remote Control: Turn off any TV around you

How familiar is this scenario: you get a group of your mates together to watch a football match in the pub only to find that everyone else in the pub supports the other team. It’s under a minute to full time and the other team are all set to score the winning goal while you sit there in agony being jeered by everyone else. How do you have the last laugh? Why by switching the TV off of course! Though if you got up and physically pressed the on/off button, you would no doubt be lynched by an angry mob. However, thanks to the TV B Gone remote control, you have discreet access to power the closest TV in your vicinity. Talk about playing god.

This pocket sized remote control can switch off 99 per cent of TVs thanks to over 400 “off” sequences pre-programmed into the device. It is basically a type of Universal Remote Control that works by shining pulses of invisible light that directs most TVs to turn off or on.

There is a North American & Asian model which works for TVs in US, Canada, Mexico, as well as other countries that use NTSC video. The European model works for televisions in Europe and Australia and may also allow you to take control in other countries that use PAL or SECAM video. The remote control is designed to work within a few seconds, but can take up to 69 seconds (an oddly exact number) which would obviously be no good for saving face in the last minutes of an important sporting event.

You can use it in the office to control your boss’s TV, at home when the kids are fighting over reruns of Friends, at parties when people decide to pull out a Sandra Bullock film, at a restaurant when you can’t bear to hear 24 hours of weather forecasts anymore, and even at the airport though this is a bit cruel as you may ensue chaos if people can’t find their boarding gates.

To be extra annoying, you can also use TV B Gone to keep turning the TV on to convince your kids that there is a ghost in the house, though you will have to deal with the ramifications of scared, screaming children.

All in all, this gadget is a bit of a laugh but nevertheless a very handy one to keep in your pocket the next time someone close to you insists on watching Hollyoaks.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
