Facebook Introduces Automactic Face Detection Tagging and More

Facebook users, you know the drill: upload a million and one photos from last night's party, put them all in a folder and then spend hours clicking faces to tag everyone. Not anymore!

The wonderful people at Facebook are making some useful changes to the tagging system and it seems that they are just the start of a complete improvement of the social networking site.

Changes to tagging come after Facebook recently blessed users with the ability to like individual comments. The new tagging feature automatically detects faces and all you have to do is type in the correct name. It's a little bit easier than clicking all the faces one by one. There is even talk of the technology going a step further and automatically tagging faces itself, then all you would have to do is click to confirm Facebook is correct.

Another interesting tagging feature which has emerged is automatic connection of photos and events. If Facebook knows your having an party (because you've organised it through the sites event planner) and you upload photos during a shortly after the party Facebook will automatically ask if the photos are from the party.

The changes to Facebook represent Founder Mark Zuckerberg's push to get more user activity on the site and to extend the 'Social Graph,' meaning that he wants Facebook to be the heart of our internet experience with users able to integrate social networking and their favourite websites.

That's all great, but when do we get what we all really want; a dislike button!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
