Review: Edifier Studio Speakers

Canadian-based speaker company Edifier are looking to consolidate their position within the multi-media studio speaker market with their latest speakers R1900TiII so how does it stack up against the competition in the speaker market…

Review

We got our hands on a pair and gave them a sonic slamming and put them through their paces to see how these multi media speakers hold-up to the myriad of different sounds that an average computer user demands of them.

Music

First of all we tried the Edifier’s on some music and were pleasantly surprised – due to the fact that they’re studio speakers they reproduced a soft and warm sound, perfect for eradicating any unwanted noise if you make music as a bedroom producer.

Movies

We then moved onto some movies, however we were left a little disappointed with the lack of clarity effected speech, but the mid and high-end were more than acceptable of someone who watches films on their computer.

Setup

The Edifier’s speakers are pre-amped near-field speakers that require you to plug them into a computer or personal music player – simply plug the speaker into a headphone jack, plug them into the wall and you’re away. A far cry from the hours spent setting up separate systems. The simple set up was welcomed and made for a easy to use solution.

Features

Annoyingly bass and volume are controlled by kill switches on the rear of the right speaker, which we found awkward, but was remedied by turning them up and then controlling the volume through our Mac.

The speaker are made of 12mm thick wood ensuring the warm sound throughout the tests and will surely last for many years.

We Say

If your looking for a simple pair of pre-amped speakers, that can be used with myriad of different devices and don’t take up to much space or time, then you can’t got wrong with a pair of Edifier RT900TII speakers. They only cost a £ 100 and produce a much fuller sound than a pair of cheap nasty satellite speakers that most PC’s come with.

Gaj-it Verdict

7/10

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
