Samsung are really getting stuck into the smartphone market. As excitement builds over the iPhone 4 and Motorola’s possible iPhone killers the Droids, Samsung are not missing out on the action and are showing us what they can offer with the Samsung Galaxy S (a.k.a Vibrant) and the Samsung Galaxy S Pro (a.k.a Epic 4G) which we talked about earlier today.
The Samsung Galaxy S/ Samsung Vibrant will be loaded with features on its release. Avatar and a collectors edition game will be preloaded onto the 2GB memory card and Amazon Kindle onto the phone itself.
The technical specs of the phone are also impressive with a 4 inch high resolution screen, a 1GHz processor and a six-axis accelerometer (that detects movement on the phone for use with games and screen orientation etc.)
The device which runs on Android 2.1 with talks of a future upgrade to 2.2 has been picking up some good reviews and is expected to be a reasonably big seller in the smartphone market.
T-mobile US are planning a July release of the Vibrant. Verizon are also getting involved in releasing the Vibrant as Samsung Fascinate shortly.
Release dates and prices have yet to be confirmed and nothing has been said about UK release.
It’s nice to see more options springing up in the smartphone market but in my opinion these are the type of phones which are going to be washed aside and forgotten in the inevitable iPhone/Droid face off but that’s probably good news for consumers as chances are we will see smartphone prices lowered in order to offer cheaper alternatives to the expensive ‘big players’ like the iPhone.
What do you think? Do you think the new Samsung additions will be washed aside to make way for a iPhone 4/Droid battle? Leave us a comment below…

Any one who can give the mafia at Apple a run for their money has my vote. In today’s POSIX environment, I clearly can’t understand why someone would continue to support Apple’s closed-minded architecture; let alone, pay the outrageous prices they demand for technology built right beside cheaper and equally capable devices coming out of China. That makes Apple, in my opinion, one of the biggest abusers of cheap labor in the world; they are probably paying some Chinese worker a couple of dollars an hour to build their iPhone or iPad and then turn around and make 20 times that in profit on each device. I won’t be sucked into their fold; Droid and HTC; now that’s a combination I’d support.
Already been involved in cellular communications as an RF engineer since 1982 when I worked for Motorola. Had Blackberrys for the last eight years or so, but just pre purchased a Samsung Vibrant through T-mobile. Want some new capabilities as well as a new Os to play with. I’m disappointed that T-mobile has turned away the wi-fi compatability hotspot feature in the Samsung Vibrant, but I’m sure somebody will figure out exactly how to root it and add the feature back again in. I am now carrying a wi-fi compatability only iPad and want to wirelessly tether it to the cellular phone. Looking forward to obtaining my new phone!
Great info, I’m a guy from Detroit who is about to take his first genuine dive into the Google android, figuring it’s best obtained through acquiring the Samsung Fascinate. It’s been a lengthy delay, including ordering a HTC Desire and cancelling which due to receiving information regarding this mobile phone, as well as in my personal little search for details to move the period I ultimately found this wonderful site.
