Amazon’s Kindle App Ready for iPad, iPhone Now With Embeddable Audio and Video

Amazon’s share price has dropped by 8% since the launch of Apple’s iPad and Apple have since seen their share price rise by 13% – this is all to do with E-Reader’s and the ability to sell consumers books, guides, magazines at a substantial profit compared to there physical counterparts.

Amazon announced today that their app is ready for the competition and is now available for iPad and iPhone – Amazon have realised that they can’t touch Apple’s sales as they have sold as many Kindle’s in two and a half years as Apple has iPads in a month.

Where they see profit in Kindle, is as a book store and they have decided to push the medium forward. Now you’ll be able to see and hear video and audio – which will open up a host of possibilities.

“Readers will already find some Kindle Editions with audio/video clips in the Kindle Store today–from Rose’s Heavenly Cakes with video tips on preparing the perfect cake to Bird Songs with audio clips that relate the songs and calls to the birds’ appearances. This is just the beginning – we look forward to seeing what authors and publishers create for Kindle customers using the new functionality of the Kindle apps.”

Amazon has mentioned that a guide of London will now include embedded audio narration from the book’s author, which is a fantastic addition, allowing users to walk our fair cities as they are being guided by people in the know – finally a really reason to have a ebook reader app on a 3.5 in display.

No word on what other devices might be supported. Windows, Mac, and BlackBerry all have Kindle apps, and can all support video, but were not mentioned in the press release.

The newest update also includes higher resolution images for iPhone 4’s eye-scrorchingly sharp screen . It’s available in the App Store now.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
