It has been rumoured that Apple maybe releasing a new iMac which will come touting a touch screen.
The tech people over at Loop Rumors are reporting that not only will the iMac feature a touch screen but they have revealed that the new iMac will feature a hybrid OS as well as a multi-touch interface.
The multi touch interface doesn’t at all seem surprising especially as this is the new feature on Apple iOS 4, however we’re a little perplexed as to how the hybrid OS, which will use Mac OS X and also iOS for the touch screen interface will work.
So when can we see this touch screen, hybrid OS with multi-touch features being released? Well, it has been rumoured that it could be as near as this summer so guys watch this space!

Please learn how to write english properly and proof read what you write before publishing it.
Also, the multi-touch interface has been an integral part of the iPhone interface for a while now. The iOS4 does obviously have this feature, but it is by no means its “new feature”.
There isn’t any mistakes in the English in the text. What are you saying about her English. It’s perfectly good.
ZCM – what are you talking about?
I have done proof reading in my time and apart from 1 missing comma, it is fine.
“however we’re a little perplexed as to how the hybrid OS, which will use Mac OS X and also iOS for the touch screen interface will work.”
Because of the comma after “OS” there should be another comma after “interface” as the sentence is:
“…how the hybrid OS will work.” and it is being interrupted with a secondary comment.
However, it’s an internet blog not a hard back book. As long as the spelling is alright then that’s fine.
So GadgetGirl, you carry on, you’re doing a good job.
Back on topic.
I’m not convinced. The iMac touch rumours have been around ever since the first iPhone. The problem is that the bigger the screen is, the further you need to be away from it. A vertically mounted screen at arm’s length would be a nightmare for RSI.
For a system to work it would have to be on your lap due to the natural resting position of the hands. Being on your lap would mean it would be limited to size and weight.
Essentially, the perfect product would be a 17″ iPad running OSX and having all the standard essentials live a DVD ROM drive, USB, LAN, SD card port etc.
The further away you sit from a screen, the smaller it looks. If you sit the recommended distance from a 24″ iMac, a 14″ lap based screen would have the same visual size. A 17″ lap based system would visually be the same as a 30″ iMac.
The 3 drawbacks I can see with a lap based touch screen system is not everyone likes virtual keyboards, over a full day the screen would get very greasy and lastly, staring at your lap for hours is no good for your neck.
